Yumie Kono

Land In Land Out

February 13 - March 7, 2020

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Empty Gallery is pleased to present 'Land In Land Out', an exhibition of work on paper by Japanese-Canadian artist Yumie Kono.

Yumie Kono was born in Hiroshima, Japan and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Women's College of Fine Art in Tokyo in 1967. She spent the next several years travelling the world before moving to Canada in 1973. Her work in painting and drawing explores a deeply personal realm, often through the creation of imaginary landscapes using a labour-intensive process of layering graphite pencil. This exhibition brings together a selection of work from the last thirty years inspired by an impromptu residency at a weather station in what is now the Gonzales Observatory in Victoria, BC.

‘Land In Land Out’ runs from February 13 to March 7, 2020. Visit the gallery during regular hours or by appointment.
